CFC Cause of the Week: Women & Girls

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.” – Diane Mariechild

Women and girls play key roles in the development of communities around the world. They are often the backbone of societies, but they face inequality and discrimination in many societies.

Women with full-time jobs only earn about 77% of their male counterparts serving in similar roles. Around the world, 62 million girls are denied an education. And, at least 250,000 maternal deaths would be averted if the need for both family planning and maternal and newborn health services were met.

These are only a few examples of the staggering numbers that represent the harsh reality that women face each day. Perhaps you or a loved one have faced one or more of these challenges based solely on gender.

Empowering women and achieving gender equality are imperative to sustain development of communities, countries, and societies. CFC charities are working hard to achieve these basic human rights for women and girls, ending the impacts of inequality across the globe.

Here’s how you can make an impact:
  • $17 can fund one day of technical business training for 100 girls in a developing nation.
  • $52 trains women to be midwives in their community, providing critical care for expectant mothers.
  • $120 keeps a girl in school for a year and safe from being trafficked.
